Tips for relieving a bad back
Many people complain about a bad back. This can refer to any type of back pain that is chronic. It's often not agonising pain, but certainly, enough to feel uncomfortable and to dread going to sleep at night! If you're reading this and nodding your head, here are some ways you can relieve your sore back.
Go to the doctor
The doctor knows best, so definitely go and see the doctor when you can. They will be able to tell you whether your back pain is something to be concerned about, if you need physiotherapy, and if you should do anything special. If the doctor has just told you to use self-help methods, follow our guide!
Invest in a good mattress
You can't put a price on a great night's sleep. If you have a bad back, it's essential that you have a firm mattress to help with any aches and pains. Our Brick Mattress has a really firm surface and is a staple for anyone with a bad back. If you share your bed with somebody who doesn't like a firm mattress, you could also use our mattress topper on half of the bed. Our Brick Mattresses work great with all of our reinforced bed frames, which are sturdy and made to suit everybody.
Stay active
You might be worried about aggravating your back, but keeping active is essential. Resting for a long amount of time is likely to make your back pain worse, so try to stick to your normal daily activities. You could also incorporate some exercises like swimming, yoga, or walking. Do check with your doctor before starting doing these with a bad back, however.
Treat it with heat or cool packs
Heat and cold both work to relieve back pains. You could either use a specific hot or cold compression pack which you can purchase from pharmacies, or opt for a hot water bottle or frozen vegetables.
See a physiotherapist
If your back doesn't improve, it might be best to see a physiotherapist. They will get to the root of the problem and treat you with both manual therapies and give you some guidance of exercises to do on your own. Physiotherapists are experts in this field, so it is highly likely that they will recommend something that you haven't tried thus far.
Back pain can be horrible, but it is treatable. If you follow these steps, hopefully, you'll be better in no time!
